Synopsis of Loganiaceae in Pernambuco, Brazil

Abstract Loganiaceae is a member of the Gentianales order and comprises about 460 species in 16 genera, being mainly distributed tropical regions world. The Brazilian Neotropical region one centers diversity for two richest genera Loganiaceae, Spigelia Strychnos, justifying floristic efforts to better understand family this region. This study aims update taxonomic knowledge state Pernambuco, Northeastern Brazil, providing an identification key, diagnostic characters emphasizing vegetative features, illustrations photos, distribution maps, occurrence within Conservation Units. We analyzed collections from 18 local herbaria conducted field expeditions strategical locations between 2017 2019. In total, we identified belonging three genera: Mitreola (1), (8) Strychnos (7). As shown previous studies, morphology carpoatlas was determinant recognition species. petiolata, flemmingiana, S. laurina, scabra, atlantica, divaricans, mattogrossensis, trinervis were found only Atlantic Forest, while alborubra, linarioides, pernambucensis, gardneri, rubiginosa Caatinga domain. anthelmia, polystachya, parvifolia have continuous both phytogeographic domains, presenting high morphological variability these areas. Among loganiaceous species, 13 belong 20 different Units spread over highlighting importance maintaining areas conservation biodiversity state.
